Conus
gyratus (Morton, 1834)
Specific character: Spire elevated, with about five prominent volutions.
Length, one inch.
Of this species I possess a solitary cast, from the calcareous beds of
South Carolina.
I name and figure it on account of its being the first and only
appearance of this genus in the strata now under consideration. It was found by Mr. Conrad (1).
